DESERT DEGENS WEEKLY BRIEF • JUNE 10, 2026
This Week in Vegas: Who Owns the Future of the City?
Vegas had a huge week across sports, casino business, and long-term growth. The Golden Knights are back in the Stanley Cup Final, Barry Diller’s People Inc. made an $18 billion offer for MGM Resorts, and the next wave of local casinos looks headed for the edges of the valley.
It is a reminder that Vegas is not just changing on the Strip — it is changing everywhere.
TL;DR (60-Second Version)
Golden Knights are back in the Final — Vegas is facing Carolina, with Game 6 coming to T-Mobile Arena.
MGM got an $18B offer — People Inc. offered to buy the MGM shares it does not already own.
This is not final yet — the offer is non-binding, but it comes just days after the Fertitta-Caesars agreement.
Locals casinos are moving outward — the next big growth areas appear to be the northwest valley and West Henderson.
Vanderpump Hotel is open — the Cromwell era is over, and the boutique property has officially rebranded.
Monster jackpot week — Aria, Sunset Station, Boulder Station, and Palms all had major wins across slots, table games, bingo, and baccarat.

MGM Resorts Gets an $18 Billion Offer
Barry Diller’s People Inc., formerly IAC, made an offer to buy the rest of MGM Resorts that it does not already own.
The offer is $48.30 per share in cash for the remaining 73.9% of MGM, valuing the company at about $18 billion. People Inc. already owns 26.1% of MGM and holds two board seats.
Important caveat: this is a non-binding offer. Still, with MGM and Caesars both getting takeover offers within days of each other, the Strip could be heading into a major ownership shift.
For players, the long-term thing to watch is what new ownership could mean for MGM Rewards and Caesars Rewards.
The Next Big Casinos Are Moving to the Edges
The next big local casinos may be headed to the northwest valley and West Henderson.
Skye Canyon is expected to reach 6,500 homes at full build-out, while Anthony Marnell has a roughly 35-acre project planned near Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway.
That West Henderson plan calls for 600 rooms, a casino, food hall, entertainment lounge, meeting space, and pool deck — but groundbreaking may still be three to five years out.
The takeaway: local operators are betting on Vegas population growth, even if Strip tourism moves up and down.
Golden Knights Bring Cup Fever Back to Vegas
The Golden Knights are back in the Stanley Cup Final, facing the Carolina Hurricanes.
It is the franchise’s third Final appearance and first since winning it all in 2023. Vegas came in as the underdog, but is now tied 2-2 with the Hurricanes, so the series is officially headed back to Carolina for Game 5 on Thursday, June 11 at 5:00 PM PT.
Game 6 is now locked in and comes back to T-Mobile Arena on Sunday, June 14 at 5:00 PM PT.
For Vegas, this is not just hockey. A deep June run means packed sportsbooks, packed bars, and a city-wide party heading into summer.
