DESERT DEGENS WEEKLY BRIEF • SEPTEMBER 9, 2026

This Week in Vegas: Big Corners, Big Stars & Local Wins

Vegas felt like a city making room for what comes next. Prime Strip real estate may finally get a reset, the dining scene just got a major credibility boost, and the locals market keeps reminding everyone that big wins do not only happen on Las Vegas Boulevard.

TL;DR (60-Second Version)

  • Grand Bazaar phase-out — Caesars now controls the Grand Bazaar Shops and tenant leases are expected to wind down over time.

  • Michelin is back — Las Vegas earned Michelin stars again for the first time since 2009.

  • Off-Strip jackpot — a North Las Vegas slot player hit a $103K jackpot.

  • Lotus leaves Red Rock — Lotus of Siam and Naxos are out at Red Rock Resort.

  • More Vegas notes — Strip gaming win rose in July, Penn is watching the Strip, and Golden Knights hockey is almost back.

Grand Bazaar Shops Are Getting Cleared Out

Caesars bought out its lease partner’s stake in the Grand Bazaar Shops for $66 million, giving it full control of the much-mocked retail area in front of Horseshoe.

As leases expire over the next couple of years, sources say they simply will not be renewed.

That makes this one of the most interesting corners on the Strip to watch. Whatever eventually replaces Grand Bazaar could be a major piece of the next version of center Strip.

Michelin Returns to Las Vegas

Michelin is back in Las Vegas for the first time since 2009.

The new Michelin Guide Southwest awarded stars to Joël Robuchon, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Restaurant Guy Savoy, and É by José Andrés.

On the more accessible side, Bib Gourmand honors went to China Poblano, Esther’s Kitchen, and Yen Viet Kitchen.

The debate now: does Michelin change where people actually eat, or is it mostly prestige for the resorts?

Off-Strip Jackpot: $103K in North Las Vegas

Another off-Strip player had a very good day.

A slot player hit a $103,000 jackpot at a North Las Vegas casino, keeping the recent run of neighborhood and locals-casino wins going.

The reminder: you do not need to be in a Strip high-limit room to find a six-figure hit.

More Vegas News This Week

Lotus of Siam is leaving Red Rock, along with Naxos, after an apparent falling-out between the resort and Bua Food Group.

The Strip won $776.3 million in July, up 3.6% from last year, with table games helping drive the gain.

Penn Entertainment says it would consider entering the Strip if the right opportunity comes along.

And sports are heating back up: the Golden Knights open at home September 29, while Kirk Cousins has been named the Raiders’ starting quarterback.
