This Week in Vegas: New Owners, New Rides & Big Changes
Vegas felt like it was changing hands and changing lanes at the same time. The Strip’s two biggest casino empires are heading down different ownership paths, while the city’s transportation future is getting more driverless, more underground, and a lot more complicated.

MGM stays public — Barry Diller’s People Inc. walked away from its roughly $18 billion MGM bid.
7,000 robotaxis approved — Nevada approved commercial robotaxi permits across Tesla, Waymo, Uber, Motional, and Zoox.
Vegas Loop expands — the network is up to 14 stations, with more stops and airport tunnel plans in motion.

Caesars Private, MGM Public
The “billionaires buying the Strip” story just split in two.
Caesars shareholders approved Tilman Fertitta’s buyout — $31 a share, plus Fertitta taking on billions in debt. But the deal still has hurdles, including an FTC second request and a target close by June 2027.
One day later, Barry Diller’s People Inc. walked away from its MGM bid, while keeping its 27% stake and leaving the door open to other arrangements.
The result: Caesars heads private under one owner, while MGM stays public and keeps answering to Wall Street.
7,000 Robotaxis Approved
Nevada just gave the green light to commercial robotaxis in Clark County.
Tesla was approved for up to 5,000 robotaxis, while Waymo and Uber each got up to 1,000, adding up to about 7,000 self-driving cabs authorized over the next year.
The big question: would you take a driverless ride from Harry Reid to the Strip — and what happens to the cab and rideshare drivers if airport runs start going robot?
Vegas Loop Expansion
The Vegas Loop is now up to 14 stations, with Teslas running through tunnels between the Convention Center, Resorts World, Encore, Fontainebleau, Sahara, and more.
More stops are nearly done near Virgin Hotels, Paradise and Tropicana, and across from UNLV’s Thomas & Mack. The bigger plan is a 68-mile network with 104 stations.
Between robotaxis and the Loop, getting around Vegas may look very different over the next few years.

Hard Rock Las Vegas is taking shape where the Mirage stood, with a 42-story guitar-shaped tower and a target opening in the back half of 2027.
Lake Mead hit its lowest recorded level at 1,038.5 feet, a reminder that every new Vegas growth story still sits on top of a serious water story.
Circa Survivor is already brutal this year, with only 8,610 entries still alive after Week 2 out of 25,017 total entries.
